This past summer, Governor Jay Inslee started a conversation about the future of lower Snake River salmon and steelhead, Southern Resident orcas and Washington State communities,  interviewing stakeholders and gathering information about the lower Snake River dams, salmon and communities in order to better understand people’s perspectives and to identify the kinds of investments that would be needed in order to restore a freely-flowing lower Snake River.

This is your chance to speak up for solutions. We all want a future with heathy salmon and orcas, clean and affordable energy, and thriving fishing and farming communities. Join this Washington State-sponsored conversation about restoring the lower Snake River and its endangered fish populations. This is an important step toward developing inclusive solutions that move everyone forward together.

Here’s what’s happening in December and January - and how you can get more involved:

(1) Fill out the Lower Snake River Questionnaire: An online questionnaire asks questions and seeks comments about the lower Snake River and its roles and importance for salmon recovery and communities. Comment deadline: Jan. 24 at 5:00 pm.

(2) Submit your comments on the upcoming Draft Report: On Dec. 20, Gov. Inslee’s office will release a draft report based on 75+ stakeholder interviews and fact-finding - and it will ask for public feedback. Comment deadline: TBA.

(3) Attend an evening listening session in Clarkston (Jan. 7), Vancouver (Jan. 9) or Tri-Cities (Jan. 13). The Governor’s office is hosting three evening sessions in early January to present the Draft Report, hear from a panel of stakeholders, and encourage citizen dialogue on these important issues.
Tri Cities: Monday, January 13  6-9pm
